Meridian welcomed VR Tech Lounge on April 14th, the newest virtual reality company to join Idaho's VR community. Sales Marketing Manager Aaron met with us and gave us a better understanding of the company.
After researching the opportunities within the virtual reality (VR) industry, and the lack of accessibility throughout the valley, the owners of VR Tech Lounge Igor and Sasa decided to open their tech lounge in Meridian. Igor, Sasa and Aaron all have backgrounds in the electronics industry and saw the potential of VR not only in gaming, but in education as well. Leading up to the opening of their lounge Igor and Sasa had to ask themselves: what platforms can they use, and what directions can they go in?
Equipped with Alienware computers, VR Tech Lounge exclusively uses HTC Vive headsets and utilizes HTC’s arcade platform for all experiences. One of the benefits of the headsets, is that it also allows the attendants to forewarn those in VR if they need to come inside the game areas to assist with any issues. With 718 titles to choose from the lounge has a wide variety of experiences for all ages, ranging from first-person shooters and co-op games, to visiting the Great Pyramid in Egypt. There is a Top 20 list of the most popular games/ experiences, but the owners and Aaron have their personal favorites and recommendations! Aaron’s top recommendation is Space Walk with NASA, similarly Sasa recommends the Everest VR experience, while Igor highly suggests playing Onward.
As a family friendly company, they do offer waivers for parents if they would like their kids to pick from age appropriate experiences and have parental controls throughout the system to guarantee the waiver is honored.
Beyond the VR experience, VR Tech Lounge provides comfortable couches, chairs and tables for those wanting to kick back, relax and watch the games. One of the benefits to their location is being in the same complex as Lucky Perk Coffee and Grant’s Neighborhood Grill, which you can enjoy at the lounge itself. Currently both stores and the VR Tech Lounge offer 10% both ways when you present a receipt for those businesses. To further add to the lounge aspect of their company, they offer cold drinks, and their neighbor Grant’s Neighborhood Grill is also working up a small menu for VR Tech Lounge to offer guests and look forward to that menu coming soon.
Igor, Sasa and Aaron have great hopes and aspirations for VR Tech Lounge, and what the future holds. Their goals are to expand into four stores in the next year, and to one day branch into working with architects and the housing market, rendering VR images of homes before they are built. Presently they are excited for the Lounge itself, and hope to create a space for the innovative next generation to glimpse the latest trends and where technology is going.
