Heading towards 2018!

By November 2, 2017Uncategorized

The IVRC held it's final Member Meeting of 2017 last week at Epic Realty. This growing real estate company is a great example of how virtual reality will affect many different types of enterprises. The real estate industry is exploding with new visualization technology and we're happy that Epic Reality is helping Idaho to lead the way. They've got a great space over in The Village at Meridian and we encourage everyone to support them. It's just possible that you might buy your next house with their help!

It's exciting heading into 2018 and looking forward to the incredible AR/VR tech that will be coming into the market. However, let's not forget the great advances that are happening in the next couple of months. "Standalone" VR headsets will continue to be announced and revealed. This will be an interesting new category to watch for the near future as these wireless offerings are priced attractively lower but feature a reduced 3DOF experience. Eventually, hopefully by this time next year, wireless 6DOF products like Oculus's Santa Cruz will make this first generation of standalone HMD's obsolete. Various Windows Mixed Reality headsets, like the Lenovo Explorer and Samsung Odyssey, will continue to make their way into consumer's hands. It'll be interesting to see if these HMD's will cut into market share currently dominated by PSVR, HTC Vive and Oculus.

Speaking of PSVR, the highly anticipated release of Skyrim VR is slated for November 17th. That will face some stiff competition from other big name title releases like Fallout VR and Doom VR. We're also expecting to get a lot of mobile AR consumer feedback as the Apple iPhone X and Google Pixel 2 phones continue to ship into the market. Heading out of 2017, the world of AR and VR continues to explode and generate a wider platform for products and services to launch from. It's an exciting future and we're still just scratching the surface of what's possible. Let's make sure that Idaho continues to be a leader in this journey!
